CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

Currently, I am studying a major in Public Management, Degree in Political and Government Sciences. I truly like what I am studying but I think that several changes should be made by the university to improve the main aspects of the major. In first place, the curriculum should give us more oportunities to get familiar with the public institutions, design more courses to get to know better the institutions of the state and the areas were we will work in the future.

The faculty facilities are other problem for the students, because we don't have the ideal acomodattions to study. Our library is too small and it gets full of people easily. Also, it doesn't have too many books, just the needed to study for the courses. We don't have a cafeteria to buy our meals and we don't have green areas to rest or just hung out between the clases. We also don't have a first AIDS room, so if somebody has an accident  it's going to be difficult to do something at the moment. I don't remember now but I am sure that there are lot of things to improve about infrastructure. This need is even more growing knowing that next year thirty people will enter more than usual, since the university opened the major in Political Sciences.

Another very important issue that must be improved are the  teaching methods. In most of the classes the teachers stand in front of the students and speak for an hour and a half, sometimes using visual material, but not all of them do it. At the end of the course they evaluate with written tests that mainly measure students' memory and the ability to retain content, rather than assessing true learning. It should be noted that not all teachers are like that, but most of them do. Therefore, the university should consider more the teacher evaluations and establish mechanisms for measuring the performance of teachers.
